An X-and-plus setting built from six color families against two neutral backgrounds, so the design depends on value placement rather than on any one fabric line. Reads scrappy but is cut from yardage.

Finished size: 70" x 70". Printed paper pattern.

Fabric requirements, based on 42" width: for each of the six color families, 1/4 yard for the center squares, 1/4 yard for the corner squares and 1/2 yard for the triangles. Plus 3 yards light gray for the first background, outer border and binding, 2 yards dark gray for the second background and inner border, and 5 yards backing. Fat quarters can be substituted for the 1/4 yard cuts, or two of the same fabric for a 1/2 yard cut, which makes this a good use of the fat quarter wall.
