Quilting for Beginners

Unlock the art of quilting with our Quilting for Beginners class! Whether you’re new to sewing or looking to sharpen your skills, this course is designed to introduce you to the basics of quilting while creating a charming quilt using the "Heartland" 3-yard quilt pattern.

Time: 10:00am–2:00pm

Bonus: Feel free to stay and sew afterwards!

Required Supplies:

• Pattern: All students will need to purchase the "Heartland" 3-yard quilt pattern for $5.99. The pattern will be available for purchase at Quilter’s Cottage.
• Sewing Machine: A sewing machine in good working order, including bobbins, cords, and presser feet.
• Fabric & Thread: Bring your own or purchase fabric on the first day of class.
• Tools:
  • Rotary cutter (45mm) and a 24-inch ruler, if you have them.
  • Fabric scissors.
  • Seam ripper.
  • Quilters pins (glass head preferred) or Acorn fabric glue.
  • A container or box for organizing fabric.

Special Offer: Students will receive a 15% discount on store purchases during the first day of class. All of the suggested supplies are available for purchase at Quilter’s Cottage.

Class Schedule:

Day One:

• Introductions & Fabric Basics: Meet the instructor, learn about fabric types, and how to choose fabrics.
• Threads & Needles: Differences between sewing and quilting threads and needles.
• Pins, Glue & Tools: Introduction to various tools like rotary cutters and rulers.
• Cutting & Labeling: Tips for cutting fabric and reading patterns.
• Homework: Finish cutting and labeling fabric for the next class.

Day Two:

• Review & Questions: Address any questions from Day One.
• Sewing Blocks: Begin sewing the quilt blocks.
• Homework: Complete all quilt blocks at home.

Day Three:

• Review & Questions: Address any questions from Day Two.
• Squaring Up & Sashing: Learn how to square up quilt blocks and assemble with sashing and cornerstones.
• Borders: Add borders to your quilt.

Bonus Class:

There will be a separate class on bindings later in the year, once your quilt has been quilted.
